About
Stay Safe.
Stay Connected.
SafeOutside is a real-time safety check-in app for people who venture outdoors — hikers, trail runners, cyclists, climbers, wild swimmers, stargazers, and anyone who heads out into remote or unfamiliar terrain.
The idea is simple: you set up a network with your friends, family, or club. When you head out on an activity, you check in on a timer. Your network can see your status in real time. If you go quiet, they know about it.
How it works
Before your session, you set an arrival and departure time and a check-in interval — how often you want to confirm you're safe. During the session, the app counts down. Tap green when you're fine. Tap amber if you need help finding your way. Tap red if it's an emergency.
Your network sees your status update instantly. If your timer runs out without a check-in, everyone is notified and kept up-to-date. If you press red, an SOS alert is sent immediately — by push notification, WhatsApp, Discord, and email — to every member of your network.
Sessions
Before you head out, create a session with your planned arrival time, departure time, and check-in interval. Sessions can be saved as templates and reused. You can start a session early or end it early from the dashboard. Multiple sessions can be planned in advance and the app will activate the right one automatically when the time comes.
Networks
A network is your group — your club, your family, your friends. Create a network and invite others with a shareable link or code. Each network can have its own activity type, a Discord webhook for alerts, and an optional WhatsApp group link. You can belong to multiple networks and switch between them in the app.
Reports & Messages
During a session, any member can post a report or message to the network — a weather update, a hazard warning, a route change, or simply a hello. Reports are time-stamped, attached to the session, and visible to all members in real time.
Observer Mode
Not taking part but want to keep an eye on the group? Toggle observer mode on the dashboard. Observers see the full network status but are not required to check in themselves — useful for base camp monitors, event organisers, or anyone providing remote support.
what3words
SafeOutside integrates with what3words to give every check-in a precise three-word location. When you check in, your what3words address is shared with your network alongside your GPS coordinates — making it easy for anyone to find you even without a map.
NFC Check-In (Pro)
Pro and Lifetime members can check in by tapping a physical NFC tag. Write your personal code to any NFC sticker, attach it to your kit, and tap it with your phone to register a green check-in instantly — no unlocking, no tapping buttons.
Subscriptions
SafeOutside is free to use with one network. Pro and Lifetime membership unlock unlimited networks, NFC check-in, what3words API lookup, and WhatsApp group integration. Upgrade options are available within the app.
Who is it for?
SafeOutside is built for anyone who goes out alone or in small groups and wants a simple, low-friction way to keep people in the loop. It is particularly useful for solo outings, early morning or late night activities, remote terrain, and trips to areas with limited phone signal — stargazers, hikers, climbers, wild swimmers, trail runners, cyclists, and more.
Important
SafeOutside is a communication aide, not a replacement for emergency services or for direct personal contact. If you are in immediate danger, always call 999 (UK) or 911 (US) first. If you are worried about someone, call them directly — do not wait for the app. Please read our Disclaimer before using the app.
